What is on a public Snapchat profile?

A public profile is the page Snapchat gives creators, public figures and brands. Unlike a personal account, it has a subscriber count instead of a friend list, an optional bio, category and website, and tabs for the public Story, Spotlight and saved Highlights. Personal accounts show the public only a name and, sometimes, a Bitmoji; in our test, one personal account showed nothing else.

Which browser works on Chromebook?

Chrome works; any up-to-date browser that plays MP4 video does. SnapViewer is a web page, so there is no Chromebook app to install and nothing asks for your Snapchat login.

Tips for profiles on Chromebook

  • Tap the profile picture to open it in its stored size.
  • The subscriber count is rounded for big accounts (for example 28.6M).
  • Use the tabs under the card to switch between Story, Spotlight and Highlights.
  • If only a name and a Bitmoji appear, the account is personal, not public.

What can you never see?

These stay private on Snapchat, and no website can show them without the owner's account:

  • Private accounts and friends-only Stories
  • Chats, Snaps sent to friends and Memories
  • Location (Snap Map) and friend lists
  • Who else viewed a Story

How much data does it use?

The profile card itself is light: the profile picture preview is a few kilobytes. Media only loads when you open a snap.

Can you save what you watch on Chromebook?

Yes, each snap has a Download button. The file lands in Files › Downloads. The full steps for saving are on Download Snapchat Profile Photos on Chromebook.

How does the viewer look on Chromebook?

A Chromebook runs Chrome, so the page looks as it does on a PC: several columns of snaps and normal video controls. Files go to the Files app, under Downloads. Because ChromeOS can clear Downloads to free space, move snaps you want to keep.

Does the account owner see you?

SnapViewer reads the public page from our server without logging in, so your Snapchat account is never used and your name is not shown to anyone. The previews themselves load from Snapchat's servers, which see a normal web request, as for any public page.

What if nothing shows up on Chromebook?

  • Check the spelling: usernames can contain dots, dashes and underscores.
  • Personal accounts show only a name and a Bitmoji; that is all Snapchat makes public.
  • Refresh the page and try again; Snapchat sometimes does not answer at once.
  • Make sure Chrome is up to date so MP4 playback works.

Frequently asked questions

Can I view Snapchat profiles on Chromebook without an account?

Yes, if the profile is public. Open the page in Chrome, type the username and the public content appears. Private accounts cannot be viewed.

Do I need the Snapchat app on Chromebook?

No. Everything runs in Chrome. You only need the app to post or to see friends' private Stories.

Will the person know I looked?

SnapViewer never logs in, so your account is not used. We cannot see what Snapchat itself records about requests to its servers.

Can I view a private account on Chromebook?

No. No website can do that honestly; pages that promise it are a red flag.

Is SnapViewer part of Snapchat?

No. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Snap Inc.

Can I download what I watch?

Yes. Each snap has a Download button; the file lands in Files › Downloads.

What does the subscriber count mean?

It is the number Snapchat shows on the public profile. SnapViewer copies it as is and rounds large numbers (for example 671.3K).

Why does a profile show only a name?

Because it is a personal account. Snapchat shows the public only its name and sometimes a Bitmoji.
