What is a Snapchat score?
It is a single number attached to every account that reflects how actively the account uses Snapchat. Snap calls it the Snapscore. It appears under your name on your Profile screen, and your friends can see it on your profile too.
Snap has never published the formula. Its help center gives only the ingredients, in a sentence worth reading in full because almost everything else written about the score is guesswork.
“Your Snapchat score is determined by a super-secret, special equation that combines the number of Snaps you’ve sent and received, the Stories you’ve posted, and a couple other factors.”
So the number tracks activity, not popularity. It does not count followers, views or likes, and it is not the subscriber count you see on a public profile.
What makes your Snapscore go up?
Snap names three things: Snaps you send, Snaps you receive and Stories you post. Beyond that it only mentions a couple of other factors without naming them. Anything more specific, such as exact points per Snap, is a guess.
| Activity | Counts toward the score? | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sending a photo or video Snap | Yes | Snap help: Snaps sent |
| Receiving a Snap | Yes | Snap help: Snaps received |
| Posting to your Story | Yes | Snap help: Stories posted |
| Snapping with other Snapchat+ members (Multiplier on) | Counts double | Snap help: Snapscore Multiplier |
| Text Chats, calls, Lenses, streak length | Not named by Snap | Treat as unknown |
One honest takeaway: if you want the number to climb, Snapping with friends and posting Stories are the only actions Snap has confirmed. Third-party lists of hidden bonuses are not backed by any official page.
Where can you see your Snapchat score?
Open the app, tap your Bitmoji or profile icon in the top-left corner, and look under your display name. Snap says you can always check your score there.
- Open Snapchat and tap your profile icon.
- Look below your name for the number next to your username.
- To see a friend's number, open their Friendship Profile from the Chat screen.
Snap also notes that other people's profiles can only be opened in the mobile app, not in a web browser. That is one reason no website can read a Snapscore for you.
Who can see your Snapscore?
Your friends can, from your profile in the app. The Wikipedia article on Snapchat describes the score as recorded and visible to one's friends. It is not printed on public profile pages that strangers open on the web.
What a stranger can see on a public profile is different: a display name, a bio, a profile picture, public Stories and, if the owner chooses, the subscriber count. Snap lists showing your subscriber count as a public-profile option, which is why viewers sometimes mix the two numbers up.
Can you lower or reset your Snapscore?
No. Snap states plainly that there is no way to lower or reset a Snapscore. Deleting Snaps, clearing Chats or removing friends does not take points away, and there is no setting that changes the number.
The only way to start from zero is a new account, and that loses your friends, Memories and Streaks. For most people that trade is not worth it for a number nobody outside their friends sees.
Why is my Snapchat score not going up?
Usually because the activity you are doing is not one Snap has confirmed. Chatting by text all day may never move the number, while a few photo Snaps will. Common reasons the total seems frozen are below.
- You mostly sent text Chats rather than photo or video Snaps.
- You opened Stories but did not post any yourself; watching is not listed as a factor.
- The app has not refreshed your profile yet. Close and reopen it, then check again.
Because the formula is secret, nobody can promise how many points a given Snap earns. If the number moves slower than you expect, it is not a bug you can report.
How does Snapscore Multiplier work?
It is a Snapchat+ extra. Snap says subscribers can grow their score twice as fast when they send a Snap to, or receive one from, another Snapchat+ subscriber. The setting is off by default.
- Open your profile and tap the Snapchat+ membership card.
- Find Snapscore Multiplier in the feature list.
- Toggle it on. It only affects Snaps exchanged with other Snapchat+ members.
Snapchat+ also lets subscribers tap a friend's number on their Friendship Profile to see how much it changed since the last check. Free accounts see only the current total.
What is a good or high Snapscore?
There is no official scale. A teenager who Snaps friends all day can pass a long-time user who mostly reads Stories. The number grows with the age of the account and the volume of Snaps, so comparing two people says little.
Snap does not publish averages, rankings or a maximum, and neither do we. Lists of record scores on other sites cannot be checked against any official source, so we leave them out.
A more useful question is whether the number matters to you. Snap's help pages do not describe it as unlocking any feature or changing who sees your Stories or Spotlight videos.
Is the Snapscore the same as Streaks or Best Friends?
No. They all grow from Snapping, but each measures something else. The score is one total for your whole account. A Streak counts consecutive days with one friend. Best Friends rank the eight people you Snap and Chat with the most.
| Feature | What it measures | Who sees it | Needs Snapchat+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Snapscore | Overall Snapping and Story activity of one account | You and your friends | No (Multiplier and change view do) |
| Streak | Days in a row two friends exchanged Snaps | The two friends | No (extra free restores do) |
| Best Friends | The eight people you Snap and Chat with most | Only you see the full list | No |
| Solar System planets | Your position in a friend's Best Friends list | You, on their Friendship Profile | Yes |
- Snapchat Streaks explain the fire emoji, the hourglass and how to restore a lost Streak.
- Snapchat planets show where you sit in a friend's Best Friends list, for Snapchat+ members.
- Who viewed my Snapchat Story covers the viewer list and its 200-name limit.
Can a website check someone's Snapscore?
Not honestly. The score lives inside the app, behind a login, on profiles that only friends can open. A public profile page on snapchat.com does not include it, so a website that reads public pages has nothing to show.
SnapViewer reads only public profiles. Our Snapchat profile viewer shows the name, username, subscriber count when it is public, bio, website and picture. It never shows a Snapscore, friend list, Best Friends, chats or location.
Sites that claim to look up anyone's score, or ask for your Snapchat password to do it, are a risk to your account. See are Snapchat viewer sites safe for the warning signs.
What can SnapViewer show instead?
Everything a public profile already shows to the world, laid out in one page. Type a username to open the profile card, the current public Story, saved Highlights and Spotlight videos, and save any snap as the MP4 or JPG Snapchat serves.
Use the Snapchat story viewer for Stories, the Spotlight downloader for short videos, or the profile picture viewer to see the full-size photo instead of the small one Snapchat shows.
SnapViewer is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Snap Inc. Profile owners can ask us to stop showing their public profile; see the copyright and opt-out page.
Frequently asked questions
How is the Snapchat score calculated?
Snap says a secret equation combines Snaps you sent and received, Stories you posted and a couple of other factors. The exact formula is not public.
Do text messages increase my Snapscore?

Can I reset my Snapscore?
No. Snap says there is no way to lower or reset a Snapscore.
Where do I find my Snapscore?
Under your name on your Profile screen in the app. A friend's number is on their profile.
Who can see my Snapscore?
Your friends, from your profile in the app. It is not shown on public profile pages opened on the web.
What is the Snapscore Multiplier?

Can I see how much a friend's score changed?

Why is my Snapscore stuck?
Usually because you sent Chats rather than Snaps, or the profile has not refreshed. Reopen the app and send a photo or video Snap.
Is the Snapscore the same as the subscriber count?
No. The subscriber count is how many people subscribe to a public profile. The score measures the account's own Snapping activity.
Can SnapViewer show someone's Snapscore?
No. The score is not on public profile pages, so we cannot read it. We show only the public profile card, Story, Highlights and Spotlight.
Does a high score help my Stories reach more people?
Snap does not say it does. The score unlocks no feature and is not described as affecting Story or Spotlight reach.
Is SnapViewer part of Snapchat?
No. SnapViewer is an independent tool and is not affiliated with Snap Inc. It only reads public profiles.
